  • what we’re up to

summer is in full swing and here’s what’s been keeping us busy: anything involving water and goggles! lots of snow cones: getting a big girl bed: spending time with her new cousin: AND….getting ready for BABY BROTHER’S arrival in september with lots of craft projects! (art collaboration by gracie and dad) (whale pillow by mom)

  • dear gracie

dear gracie, you are away at grandma and bop bop’s house. you’ve only been away for a couple of days and i find myself, in the stillness, missing you so much. i miss your adorable chatter and your never ending curiosity. i miss the way you smile at me and your cheerful giggles. i miss your silliness and your wild imagination. i miss the tears i get in my eyes when i read you bedtime stories. i miss you needing me. you’ll be back tomorrow and i am so grateful that you get to go on adventures to grandma and bop bop’s house, be spoiled rotten, and receive crazy amounts…

  • mom fail

today i tried to be the super fun mom. i took gracie to eat lunch at “old macdonald’s” as she calls it and let her play on the playscape. i thought it would be like a dream come true for her since she always asks to go there. well, it was not super fun. she was totally overwhelmed by the playscape and couldn’t figure out how to navigate it which led her to be stuck at the very top. not to worry, i raced through the tiny tunnels, bumped my head on the low surfaces and wedged my body through the maze to reach her and helped her find her…

  • dear gracie

dear gracie, you are precious. you are sweet. you are caring. you are silly. you are brave. you are adventurous. you are wild. you are perfect. i want to save your sweet kisses to have forever. i want to hold onto your tight hugs all day long. i love you so much. thank you for giving me grace. thank you for making me smile. thank you for making me better. sometimes i sneak into your room at night to give you a kiss. tears well up in my eyes as i watch you sleep and i imagine the dreams you must be having. i pray that your dreams come true someday.…

  • band of brothers and sisters

i read an article that was floating around on facebook the other day that resonated deeply. it was written by a local pasor, will davis jr, and the quotes in this post are from his article found here: http://www.willdavisjr.com/ this topic hits home. this topic frustrates me because unfortunately, the shortcomings of man have blinded some to truth and have hindered the reputation of the true Christ follower. i’m not a Christian because it’s trendy or because i was raised that way… i am a Christian because first and foremost i believe that Christ is the son of God and that He died on my behalf, gave glory to God to…

  • conversations with my 2 year old

lately, i have been cracking up at some of the conversations i have had with gracie. she is curious, smart, hilarious and i am in awe of her quirky personality… google images [my sister, meredith, talking to gracie] mer: gracie, who’s your best friend? gracie: beyonce mer: really? what do ya’ll do? gracie: dance —————————————————– [cue a major meltdown] me: gracie, let’s be thankful for the two tic tac mints i gave you. gracie: i NEED three me: i know it’s hard when you want something and mommy says no. let’s try and be thankful. gracie: thank you mommy (very dramatically while crying) ——————————————————- [conversation while at a restaurant] gracie: mommy,…

  • naptime thoughts

the terrible trying two’s have been humbling.  refining.i have learned so much about my own sin and blemishes through disciplining my own child. it is a great responsibility to discipline children with grace and represent god’s love to them at the same time. i recently read and article by john piper where he stated these truths:“”Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right” (Ephesians 6:1). It makes no sense that God would require children to obey parents and yet not require parents to require obedience from the children. It is part of our job — to teach children the glory of a happy, submissive spirit to authorities…

  • never a dull moment

simple errands like grocery shopping have turned into strategic missions…as long as this busy toddler is involved! i’m an expert at knowing which store has what type of cart, and what type of cart will restrain the busy person. JACKPOT, my sister and i stumbled across this awesome car/cart so this was obviously going to be our new go to spot for groceries. what toddler would not want to ride (quietly and still) in this sweet ride. WELL, fast forward to aisle 3 and gracie was all of a sudden on the floor. yep, she houdini’d out of the seatbelt, crawled through the windshield and landed on the floor, ALL…

  • sabbatical

i’m off of work for the summer! due to some overstaffing issues at work, nurses were given an opportunity to take a leave from work this summer…and i took it! i knew that i needed a break to rest and heal my heart. my prayer is that i will be renewed and rested so that i can continue to care wholly for my kiddos when i return. my phone rang the other day from work and it was a call to inform me of a patient passing away. we do that as a courtesy so there is no shock when we walk in for our shift, it’s supposed to allow…

  • busy october

october is almost over and i think i’ve only worked a few shifts…between our wonderful family vacation to the bahamas! gracie’s ear surgery and sick days, the month has flown by. we had the most wonderful trip the the bahamas with our family. gracie LOVED the water and the feel of her toes in the sand. she was a super traveller and a joy to watch experience new things that she’ll never remember!  last friday gracie had minor surgery on her ear to remove a congenital ear tag. she had to undergo general anesthesia and even get an iv in her hand but she was such a trooper. i was so…
